Our Story
The Story of iThemba Labasha Community Centre
A living testament to what hope, compassion, and community can achieve together.
How We Got Here
Hope for Our Children: Growing Young Minds and Stronger Futures
iThemba Labasha was founded in 2007 as a small daycare centre serving vulnerable children in Shaka's Head, KwaZulu-Natal. Today, we are a registered Early Childhood Development NPO providing preschool education, daily nutrition, and full-day care to local families.
When initial sponsorship ended in 2011, the centre entered a season of uncertainty. Rather than close, it redefined its purpose under a new name: iThemba Labasha — Hope for our Children. Since then, our work has been sustained largely through private donations and child sponsorship.
Although limited government funding began in 2019, support remains inconsistent. Private donors continue to fund daily meals, early learning programmes, and employment for local staff — many of whom live in the community we serve.
